An offline map is exactly what it sounds like, a map that can be displayed even in environments without internet access.
You need to download the map data for the area in advance, but the ability to view maps without a network is a popular feature.
In addition, there are base maps, not just for mountain climbing, but also for basic terrain used for running or walking courses.
These maps use data from OpenStreetMap.
It also supports ski maps.
This feature displays ski course information for over 10,000 locations worldwide, not just in Japan.
It’s useful for both hiking in summer and skiing in winter.
Moreover, contour maps, which display topographic maps with contour lines used for mountain climbing and trail running, can also be downloaded.

Amazfit T-Rex 3 Can Use GPX Data from YAMAP and Other Apps
The Amazfit T-Rex 3 is equipped with an offline map function.
Moreover, it supports navigation features using GPX data output from apps such as YAMAP and Yamareco, which are specialized for mountain climbing.
I don’t personally do mountain climbing, so I use it as a sports smartwatch, but for those who enjoy hiking, this feature is incredibly useful.
Since my friend enjoys hiking, I feel like recommending the Amazfit T-Rex 3 to them.
To use YAMAP and similar apps, you first need to import the GPX data into the Zepp app, which is the dedicated app for Amazfit.
Once you import and select it, you can view map information in real-time, even offline.
Of course, it also has a navigation feature that obtains location information and guides you to your destination.
Amazfit T-Rex 3 and Its Durability!
The Amazfit T-Rex series is known for its ruggedness, which is one of its most appealing features.
You can tell it’s an outdoor model just from its design, and the military-like look is something I personally love. In fact, it’s my favorite model within the Amazfit series.
The Amazfit T-Rex 3 is built with a tough design that meets the U.S. military’s MIL-STD standards.
It clears nine standards, including low pressure, high temperatures up to 70°C, low temperatures down to -30°C, heat shock, humidity, vibration, impact, liquid contamination, icing, freezing, and rain.
That said, in everyday wear, you’re unlikely to experience such extreme conditions like severe cold, heat, or intense humidity, vibration, or impact.
In other words, you don’t even need to worry about rain in daily life.
This is because the Amazfit T-Rex 3 is rated 10ATM waterproof, meaning it can withstand depths of up to 100 meters while stationary.
In practical terms, this is equivalent to free diving up to 45 meters.
In fact, I got a bit sweaty while walking, so I rinsed it lightly under running water. 
The fact that it doesn’t break after that is what makes the Amazfit series so great, especially since the Amazfit T-Rex 3 has a high waterproof rating of 10ATM, which is why I continue to use it.
Amazfit T-Rex 3’s User-Friendly Display
The design of the Amazfit T-Rex 3 is really appealing, isn’t it?
The slightly angular stainless steel bezel gives it a sense of luxury.
The screen size of the previous Amazfit T-Rex 2 was 1.39 inches with a brightness of up to 1,000 nits.
In this regard, the Amazfit T-Rex 3 has been upgraded with a screen size of 1.50 inches and a brightness of up to 2,000 nits.
Additionally, where reinforced glass was used before, the Amazfit T-Rex 3 now features Gorilla Glass, increasing its strength and reinforcing its military-style design.
The visibility is, of course, impressive, and with the brightness set to maximum, it can be clearly seen even under direct sunlight.
I once heard from someone who cycles that checking the time while riding must be done quickly to avoid accidents.
Now that I think about it, you can’t afford to stare at a watch that’s hard to see in bright sunlight while riding.
In that regard, the high brightness of Amazfit’s top models makes them very useful for cyclists, as they offer excellent visibility under the sun.

The Amazfit T-Rex 3 is equipped with a long-lasting battery.
Apple Watch’s battery life is still not great, and when I spoke to a staff member at a major electronics store the other day, they mentioned that many people are switching from smartwatches like the Apple Watch due to the short battery life.
Furthermore, if you’re using an Android device instead of an iPhone, there’s even less reason to stick with the Apple Watch.
For those people, I would recommend the Amazfit T-Rex 3.
The official battery life for the Amazfit T-Rex 3 is 27 days with standard usage.
Even with heavy usage, it can last 13 days, and with GPS use, it lasts up to 180 hours.
In battery-saving mode, it can last up to 40 days, but in my daily life, what I expect from the Amazfit T-Rex 3 is notifications from my smartphone, time checking, and GPS tracking during jogging or walking.
With this level of use, it has a power-saving design that allows you to go from half a month to a full month without charging.
Earlier, I mentioned being attracted to its waterproof feature, but not only that; one of the appealing aspects of Amazfit, including the T-Rex 3, is its power-saving design.
Highly Accurate GPS Function of Amazfit T-Rex 3
When it comes to the Amazfit series, many models are known for their GPS functionality, but recently there has been a trend where lower-cost models don’t include GPS, creating a clear distinction between them.
Personally, I think this separation is great for those who don’t need GPS and wear smartwatches primarily as fashion items.
However, from mid-range to high-end models, GPS is included, and the Amazfit T-Rex 3 is equipped with a highly accurate GPS system.
The Amazfit T-Rex 3 features dual-band circularly polarized GPS antenna technology, which ensures precision in its GPS functionality.
The T-Rex series has evolved as an outdoor model, and the Amazfit T-Rex 3 is especially strong in environments where GPS signals were previously hard to receive, such as dense forests, mountains, and urban jogging courses surrounded by buildings.
It supports six types of GPS systems, covering regions like the USA, Russia, the EU, China, Japan, and areas around India.
Therefore, not only in Japan but also abroad, the GPS accuracy remains high.
I tested the GPS accuracy of Amazfit T-Rex 3’s walking mode while taking a stroll in my neighborhood. 
When I had an errand at the Kohoku Ward Office in Yokohama, the device accurately tracked my location. Even when I got on a bus, it didn’t lose track, and it stayed on point even when I entered buildings, without deviating much.
Although I haven’t tested it for jogging, the device should provide highly accurate GPS tracking for jogging and cycling as well.
Amazfit T-Rex 3 is Actually an AI-Powered Model
Recently, AI has been gaining popularity, and Amazfit T-Rex 3 also supports GPT-4o integrated LUI, utilizing Zepp Flow.
LUI stands for Language User Interface, which refers to voice operation.
Zepp Flow is Amazfit’s AI service, allowing for easy voice-operated control.
You can use simple conversations to control various functions and settings of the Amazfit T-Rex 3.
What makes it interesting is that it’s not just one-way commands but allows for natural voice-based interactions.
At one point, I had my hands full, so I used voice control to measure my heart rate, and it smoothly switched modes for me.
Even when I mistakenly said “One-Stop Measurement” instead of “One-Tap Measurement,” Zepp Flow understood what I meant and started the one-tap measurement, which was impressive.
Currently, there are still limited things you can rely on AI for with a smartwatch, but in the future, I imagine you’ll be able to give commands to smart home appliances through your smartwatch.
It would mean you can give instructions from your smartwatch to your smartphone, and from your smartphone to your home appliances.
Though it’s not pure AI, I think we’ll see many more use cases explored moving forward.
Testing Walking Mode on Amazfit T-Rex 3
I tested the walking mode on the Amazfit T-Rex 3.
As mentioned earlier, the GPS accuracy is outstanding.
In addition to GPS, it also automatically measures speed and heart rate, making it an excellent tool for sports use.

What’s interesting about the Amazfit T-Rex 3 is that it includes an altimeter, so you can see the height of the mountains you’ve climbed.
When you ride an elevator vertically, it surprisingly measures the height accurately.
As shown below, it also supports integration with various external apps.
Testing Biometric Data on Amazfit T-Rex 3
The Amazfit T-Rex 3 is capable of measuring heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and stress levels.
As expected from a high-end Amazfit model, the measurement results seem quite accurate.
Additionally, it features the familiar one-tap measurement function.

My heart rate was 75 bpm. I might have been a bit nervous.
【Blood Oxygen Level】
The blood oxygen level was 99, which is a healthy number, indicating improved measurement accuracy.
【Stress Level】
My stress level was 36, which is within a normal range. I felt relieved because if my stress level had been high at home, it would have been a different kind of problem.
Moreover, I tested the one-tap measurement on the Amazfit T-Rex 3, and there were no significant discrepancies. 
This is because, with previous Amazfit series models, when you used the one-tap measurement function, all metrics would be measured simultaneously, which either shortened the measurement time for each item or slightly reduced measurement accuracy.
However, the Amazfit T-Rex 3 did not show significant differences even when using the one-tap measurement function, which suggests that its accuracy has improved.
Testing Sleep Quality with Amazfit T-Rex 3
Amazfit T-Rex 3 can measure sleep quality.
Normally, you would need to visit a specialized medical institution to have this part of your health examined, but with Amazfit T-Rex 3, you can easily measure it.

Amazfit T-Rex 3 Now Supports USB Type-C
The charger for the Amazfit T-Rex 3 itself still has a special magnetic design.
Previously, it had a cord and required a USB Type-A connector to be inserted.
However, now the connector has been changed to USB Type-C, so if you have a USB Type-C or A-to-C type cable, you can easily charge it, which is very convenient.
Now, as long as one side has a Type-C connector, charging is easy.
Whether the other side is Type-C or Type-A, you’ll be able to charge with ease, enhancing the convenience.
Amazfit T-Rex 3 Design
Amazfit T-Rex 3 is an outdoor-type or military-style smartwatch, which is evident at first glance with its rugged appearance.
The surface is made of stainless steel, which enhances both its premium feel and durability.
The band is curved right from the body to ensure a snug fit on the wrist.
The frame part uses a polymer middle frame.
Although Amazfit also offers regular, straight-style smartwatches, the comfort of wearing either style doesn’t differ drastically. 
However, one standout feature of the bands used in the Amazfit series is how comfortable they are.
When I used a Xiaomi smartwatch in the ¥10,000 range before, its band had more of a rubbery feel, which made it sweaty and uncomfortable to wear for long periods.
In contrast, I’ve never had an issue with any of the bands used in Amazfit models—they’re always well-made.
The band material in the Amazfit T-Rex 3 is said to be liquid silicone.
It wasn’t quite the material I expected, but the silicone band has a smooth, slick texture, making it easy to wear.
Additionally, the Amazfit T-Rex 3 features a large 1.5-inch screen, with a brightness that has been increased to a maximum of 2,000 nits.
As a result, screen visibility has significantly improved.
The biggest appeal of the Amazfit T-Rex 3, however, is its durability.
It boasts a military-grade toughness in its body.

Of course, it may accumulate scratches, but like leather products, the more you use it, the more these scratches will add character.

How you primarily use a smartwatch will differ from person to person.
Some people may think that if it’s a smartwatch, it must record body information to be of any use, while others, like me, are content as long as it can handle notifications and has a good design.
Choosing a model that balances price and design is key.

As for me, phone and SMS notification settings are essential.
That’s because I usually keep my phone in my pants pocket, so I don’t always notice when it rings.
